Nine Japanese guys went into one hotel room and made the most epic feel-good ska jam ever! That’s right, the fantastically talented Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra jammed their song “Skaravan” in a hotel room, going viral in the process. The boys get up to all sorts of antics in the video, making for one helluva memorable performance.

The nine-piece band exudes an infectious joy throughout their jam, which attracted 3.8 million views on YouTube. Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra are also cracking musicians, and their instrumental piece features some truly amazing solos from the horn player and guitarist. Their rollicking groove and joyful vibe is sure to put a smile on your face!

Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra performed “Skaravan” on Room Service, which is a digital series that showcases bands performing their songs in hotel rooms. The video has since become a classic in the series and is the third most viewed performance on the channel. Many fans in the comments indicated they were unaware of who the band is, but as other commenters pointed out, the group are well-known veterans in the ska scene.

Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra released “Skaravan” as the second track on their second studio album all the way back on December 1, 1990. Percussionist Asa-Chang formed the group in 1988, and they have been continuously active in the decades since. The band has released 25 studio albums, the most recent being 2021’s Ska=Almighty.
The band’s music mixes elements of ska, rock, and jazz, and like many traditional ska bands, their output is largely instrumental. The group has collaborated with several vocalists before, however, including well-known Japanese acts such as Shiina Ringo, Akira Kobayashi, and Yoshie Nakano.
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra formed as a 10-piece act but currently performs as a nine-piece. The lineup of the band has remained remarkably stable considering the size of the group and the length of their career, with relatively few lineup changes over the years.
